The best country for dental implants for most UK patients is Romania — it offers EU standards, strong implant expertise and the best value in Europe. Poland and Hungary are close behind. Turkey is cheapest but the most variable. Here is the full honest comparison, based on placing 4,000+ patients since 2010.

Romania is where we place the majority of our patients. It consistently offers the best balance of clinical quality, implant expertise and value in Europe — and EU membership means your consumer and medical protections are equivalent to the UK.
Single implant and crown prices run from £450 to £900. All-on-4 per arch from £2,500 to £4,500. Full mouth (both arches) from £6,000 to £9,000. Bone graft with implant from £900 to £1,600.
The main treatment hubs are Bucharest (the capital, direct flights from most UK airports), Cluj-Napoca (a university city with strong dental schools), Brasov (popular with patients who want a scenic stay), and Iasi (close to the Moldovan border, excellent value). All have English-speaking clinics experienced with international patients.
Romania suits almost every case type — single implants, multiple implants, All-on-4, All-on-6 and full-mouth restorations. It is particularly strong for patients who want the lowest possible cost while staying in an EU-regulated environment with strong implant expertise. Bucharest Henri Coanda Airport has direct routes from London Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh. Flight time is approximately 3 hours. Budget carriers often price at £50–£150 return. Full Romania dental implants guide
Poland is the closest European destination for most UK patients and offers some of the shortest, cheapest flights available. Standards are high, EU-regulated and comparable to Romania, with prices typically 10–15% above Romanian clinics but still a fraction of UK costs.
Single implant and crown prices run from £550 to £1,000. All-on-4 per arch from £3,000 to £5,000. Full mouth from £7,000 to £10,000. Bone graft with implant from £1,000 to £1,800.
Krakow and Warsaw are the main hubs, both with well-established international patient clinics. Wroclaw, Gdansk and Katowice are also strong options, particularly for patients flying from the north of England or Scotland where Polish flights can be cheaper and faster than reaching London.
Poland is an excellent choice for single implants, straightforward multi-implant work and full-arch cases where the patient wants short, affordable flights and a quick turnaround. LOT Polish Airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air connect more than a dozen UK airports to Warsaw, Krakow and other cities. Flight time is typically 2 to 2.5 hours. Full Poland dental implants guide
Budapest has been Europe's dental-tourism destination for over 30 years. The city has more implant clinics per capita than almost anywhere in the world, and some of Europe's most experienced full-mouth implantologists practice there. If you have a complex case — significant bone loss, failed previous implants, or a full-mouth reconstruction — Hungary is often the strongest choice.
Single implant and crown prices run from £600 to £1,100. All-on-4 per arch from £3,200 to £5,500. Full mouth from £7,500 to £11,000. Bone graft with implant from £1,100 to £1,900.
Budapest is the overwhelmingly dominant hub, with the greatest concentration of experienced implant clinics in Central Europe. Most international patients fly directly into Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport. Some patients also visit Sopron or Gyor, which are close to the Austrian border and have strong dental reputations.
Hungary is particularly well-suited to full-arch and full-mouth cases, complex restorations involving bone grafts or sinus lifts, patients who have had previous failed implants elsewhere, and anyone who wants access to the deepest pool of implant experience in Europe. Wizz Air, Ryanair and British Airways connect London Gatwick, Luton and Stansted to Budapest, with flight times of approximately 2.5 hours. Full Hungary dental implants guide
Turkey is the cheapest and most aggressively marketed dental destination, and there are genuinely good clinics there. However, it is also where most of the cautionary stories originate, and it is the one destination we do not routinely recommend.
The issues are structural, not geographical. The Turkish dental market has a high concentration of very high-volume package clinics that profit from throughput rather than individual case quality. Common problems reported by patients include treatment up-selling (fitting crowns where implants were promised), rushing multi-stage procedures into a single visit, inadequate follow-up, and difficulty resolving complications from overseas. Turkey is also outside the EU, which means consumer protections and regulatory oversight differ from the European standard that applies in Romania, Poland and Hungary.
If you are considering Turkey independently, the single most important step is to vet the specific clinic and implantologist — not the country or city. We do not currently refer patients to Turkish clinics. Is it safe to get dental implants in Turkey? Full guide

Romania, Poland and Hungary are all full EU member states. This matters for several reasons. Implant components must carry a CE mark, meeting the same EU Medical Device Regulation that applies in the UK under retained UK MDR 2002. Clinics follow EN ISO 17664 sterilisation standards, equivalent to UK HTM 01-05 guidance. Dental degrees are recognised across EU member states under the Professional Qualifications Directive — the same mutual-recognition framework the UK operated under until 2021. If something goes seriously wrong, EU small claims procedures and professional regulatory bodies provide recourse. None of this guarantees a perfect outcome — no dental treatment does, in any country. But it means the regulatory floor in Romania, Poland and Hungary is comparable to the UK, unlike non-EU destinations.
We weight five factors when assessing destinations. Clinical quality and accreditation covers EU regulation, clinic certifications and implantologist credentials. Implant expertise looks at the depth of experience with the specific treatment type — single, full-arch, complex. Value for money considers total cost including travel, not just clinic price. Ease of travel covers flight availability, journey time and logistics. Warranty and aftercare looks at written guarantees, UK aftercare coordination and follow-up protocol.
Romania wins on the blend of all five for the majority of UK patients. Hungary wins on expertise for complex cases. Poland wins on travel convenience. Turkey does not clear the bar on clinical quality, regulatory protection and aftercare to a standard we are comfortable recommending.
For most UK patients, Romania — it offers EU standards, strong implant expertise and the best value in Europe. Poland is the best choice if you want the shortest flights. Hungary is strongest for complex full-mouth cases.
Both are excellent EU-regulated destinations. Romania usually offers better value for the same quality; Hungary has exceptional depth of experience for complex full-arch and full-mouth cases. We match the recommendation to your specific treatment needs.
Yes — Poland is an excellent choice. EU-regulated, high clinical standards and the shortest flights from the UK. Prices are slightly above Romania but well below UK private rates. Particularly convenient if you live in the north of England or Scotland.
Turkey is cheapest and has some good clinics, but it is where most problems are reported — high-volume clinics, over-treatment and weak follow-up, outside EU regulation. We do not routinely refer patients there. If you go independently, vetting the specific clinic is more important there than anywhere.
EU member states — Romania, Poland and Hungary — because they follow European medical device and consumer-protection standards equivalent to the UK. Ultimately, safety depends on the specific accredited clinic rather than the country alone.
Within the EU, Romania is typically the cheapest for full-mouth work — around £6,000–£9,000 for both arches using premium implant brands. Turkey can be cheaper still, but carries higher risk of quality and follow-up issues.
We generally advise against it. The implantologist who places the implants should oversee the restoration for continuity of care and warranty purposes. Splitting treatment across two different clinics in different countries creates a gap in accountability that can be hard to resolve if anything needs adjusting.
Yes. Standard travel insurance rarely covers planned dental treatment abroad. You need a policy that covers the treatment itself, any complications, and emergency dental care. We advise on appropriate cover as part of our pre-travel support.
